I read a 2009 story from the St. Petersburg Times by Stephanie Hayes about You Tube video makeup artist Michelle Phan. Michelle recalled that, as a five year old, her classmates would come to school in beautiful princess gowns for Halloween. She remembered one girl in particular wearing a saffron gown from Beauty and the Beast.
Michelle's family was on food stamps. They couldn't afford to spend money on Halloween costumes, so Michelle took a paper plate and red lipstick, drew a red nose in the center and then sketched the face of a lion around it and wore it as a mask.
The princesses laughed at her.
But Michelle is getting the last laugh because of her resourcefulness. She's now a You Tube sensation because of her popular video makeup and beauty tutorials, which have lead her to lucrative opportunities, including a contract as the first and only video spokesperson for Lancôme.
She no doubt got a chuckle when she created this Elegant Masquerade video for Lancôme just in time for Halloween. The video teaches viewers how to apply makeup to wear under masquerade masks.
