I was watching The Steve Harvey Show when I found out that today is World Diabetes Day.† I knew November was National Diabetes Awareness Month, but I wasn't aware of this special day.
Steve Harvey was talking to a guest who was having a problem with cutting out sweets and was concerned about getting diabetes. Boy, can I relate. †I'm embarrassed to say that I had just purchased a bag of triple chocolate chip cookies.
Earlier in the day I had talked to actress Gabrielle Union (you'll see that interview soon) who told me that she had cut out sugary sodas and juices, which has helped with her overall health and therefore the health of her skin.† (It's also National Healthy Skin Month.)
Unfortunately type 2 diabetes (as well as pre-diabetes) has been on the rise and it is related to weight gain, which can be caused by sugary foods, refined starches and processed foods, none of which are good for diabetics or those with pre-diabetes (or anyone who would like to remain healthy, for that matter).† I took this morning's interview and The Steve Harvey Show as a sign.† I'd better take this more seriously.
Well, at least I bought broccoli.
