Oscar Award winning actress Octavia Spencer returned to the Academy Awards scene, this time as a spectator, having won the award last year for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Help. Makeup artist Valerie Noble, shares how she created Octavia's makeup look for the 85th Annual Academy Awards in these five easy steps:
1. Skin Preparation
Noble says that before applying makeup, it's important to moisturize and protect the skin. "My favorite moisturizer is RX For Brown Skin Essential Hydration moisturizing cream," she says. "It is the perfect primer because it hydrates and leaves the skin soft, without leaving it oily." Noble then applied RX For Brown Skin's Age Block AV Shield with SPF 15 to further protect Octavia's skin while on the Oscars red carpet (which actually takes place during the day).
2. Face
The next step was to apply foundation. Noble used Lancôme Teint Ultra 24 H Foundation in 510 Suede C. She then dusted Octavia's face with a high definition translucent powder to set the foundation.

3. Eyes
"I like to keep the eye more natural with a nude shadow and a light gold shimmer in bronze by MAC," says Noble. She added a pair of false eyelashes and then lined the eyes with Mac Fluidline eyeliner in black. Next she smudged Mac Eye Shadow in Smut, a dark brown shade, on the outer corner of the eyes along the lash line.
4. Cheeks
The cheeks were lightly dusted with MAC Powder Blush in Fever, an intense reddish-burgundy matte shade. "It's better to have less rather than too much," Noble advises. "It can change the direction of your look drastically."
5. Lips
The lips were lined with Storm, a wine color from Fashion Fair and the lips were finished with Fashion Fair Lipstick in Earth Red.
