Product Line Description
Simply Vera Vera Wang Cosmetics is a collection of products inspired by fashion designer Vera Wang’s personal makeup philosophy. It currently consists of sixteen products available in 74 shades. This review features the Soothing Balm, Skin Brightening Primer, Illuminating Concealer, Skin Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer, Illuminating Pressed Powder, and Illuminating Powder Blush.
Vera Wang’s cosmetic line has been created with the same philosophy of her fashion and lifestyle collections, that is that beautiful hues and glowing radiance inspire confidence and individuality. The Simply Vera Vera Wang Cosmetics Collection has a focus on a beautiful canvas (in this case, the skin), embellished with color to allow a woman to express her personality.
This philosophy is all well and good, and sounds great, but what a woman wants in makeup is product that feels good, has the right texture, tone and shade for her skin and, above all else, makes her look good. So does this collection do the job?
The Soothing Balm is a multi-purpose face and body balm to deliver long-term moisture where needed. The balm is honey-scented and made with organic beeswax, sunflower oil and safflower oil, along with hibiscus abelmschuus-extract and vitamin E to repair irritated skin and German chamomile to sooth tired and damaged skin.Review
The Soothing Balm is a glam alternative to a salve like petroleum jelly and can be used on the hands, face, elbows, knees and lips—wherever you are feeling dry. I used it on my lips, but I now know that I have to apply lip color over it—it has a nice taste and unfortunately I kept licking it off.Natural Alternatives to Petroleum Jelly
Skin Brightening Primer
The Skin Brightening Primer goes beyond prepping the skin for makeup. It is also supposed to blur away the look of wrinkles and sallow and uneven skin tone over time.Review
I can’t vouch for the primer improving the skin by blurring away wrinkles and evening skin tone. I’ve only used it a couple of times (and I don't have wrinkles), but the Primer is one of my favorites from the line. I love the way it makes my skin feel—silky to the touch.
Skin Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer
The Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer is for those who would like an alternative to foundation. It has a lightweight formula that moisturizes the skin while providing sheer-to-medium coverage. It contains sodium hyaluronate to hydrate the skin at the cellular level and ingredients to lock in moisture, plus emollients and skin conditioners like jojoba oil. The formula is also non-acnegenic and ideal for normal to dry skin types.
The Tinted Moisturizer does not contain sunscreen, so you’ll need to use one underneath. It also seems to provide more coverage when used with the primer. In the summer months, I’d probably forgo the primer, since the application was sheer and lighter without it. I tried shade 104, which seemed to match my skin tone perfectly until I went outside and it looked a little red. I think the next shade, 105, would have been better. Anyone with a deeper skin tone than mine would not be able to use the tinted moisturizers in this collection.
This Illuminating Concealer can be used as a concealer to brighten and hide dark circles and shadows, and also as a highlighter around the eyes, chin and nose.
The Illuminating Concealer has a convenient click pen applicator that I liked once I figured out how to control the amount that goes onto the brush. You twist the bottom of the Illuminating Concealer until the product appears on the brush and the first time I used it, I might have clicked a little too much (because I wasn't seeing the product) and ended up with more than I needed. After that, it was a breeze. It worked pretty well for hiding dark circles. (I used #204).
